The Light's On is made by Kevin Petersen, an independent developer (called "we" or "us" in this policy). The Light's On is a place to remember the people you've lost. What you save here is deeply personal, and we treat it that way. This policy explains what The Light's On collects, where it's kept, and the choices you have.

The short version

What you save in The Light's On

This includes the people you add and their details, memories, photos, drawings, voice recordings, letters, carry-forward notes, dates, daily check-ins, notes for hard days, and the trusted contacts you add. This content is stored in your private iCloud database through Apple's CloudKit service. We cannot read it. Apple's handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple's own privacy policy.

Sharing

When you share a memory, letter, or note, or share memories with family, The Light's On uses Apple's CloudKit sharing so only the people you invite can see it. Anything you share can be seen and saved by the people you share it with. You can stop sharing at any time, but copies someone has already saved stay with them.

Information we collect

We do not collect analytics, usage data, or advertising identifiers, and The Light's On contains no third-party tracking or advertising tools. If you choose to share crash reports with developers in your iPhone settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports that never include your memories, letters, or check-ins.

Notifications and contacts

Reminders for hard dates are scheduled on your device. Trusted contacts are stored in your iCloud so the app can offer to text them. The Light's On never contacts anyone on your behalf. You choose when to send a message.

Support resources

The Light's On lists crisis lines and support organizations. If you contact them, you're communicating directly with them, and their own privacy practices apply.

Health-related information

Daily check-ins and notes about how you're feeling may be considered health information under some laws. The Light's On only saves them if you agree, and you can turn this off at any time in Settings. See our separate Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy for details.

Children

The Light's On is made for adults 18 and older and isn't directed to children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child is using The Light's On, contact us at kevinpetersen2110@gmail.com.

Where your information is stored

The Light's On is offered in the United States. Your content is stored by Apple in iCloud, which may keep data on servers outside your state. Apple's handling of iCloud data is described in Apple's privacy policy.

Your rights, depending on your state

Depending on your state, you may have the right to know what personal information is held about you, to get a copy of it, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of its sale or use for targeted advertising. The Light's On does not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. Residents of Washington, Nevada, and Connecticut have additional rights over consumer health data, described in our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.

Because your content is in your own iCloud, you can usually exercise these rights yourself in the app. You can also contact us, and we'll respond within the time the law requires (for example, 45 days in Washington).

Security incidents

If a security incident affects your personal information, we'll notify you and the authorities as the law requires.

Your choices

Security

Your content is protected by Apple's iCloud security. We recommend using a passcode on your device. No method of storage is perfectly secure, but we have designed The Light's On so your content stays in your own account.

Changes to this policy

If we make meaningful changes, we'll tell you in the app before they take effect.
